Titanium rod
Product Overview
Ti 6242 titanium alloy rods are near-alpha titanium alloys, also known as Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo. This high-performance near-alpha titanium alloy uses titanium as the base metal and incorporates carefully proportioned alloying elements such as aluminum, tin, zirconium, and molybdenum, which synergistically enhance its overall performance. Ti 6242 rods have a density of approximately 4.54 g/cm³ (40% lighter than steel) and maintain excellent toughness and structural stability even at operating temperatures up to 550°C, while remaining non-magnetic and non-toxic. It is widely recognized for its ability to withstand long-term use under high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive conditions, outperforming many other titanium alloys under harsh conditions.
Chemical Composition (Weight %)
The precise chemical composition of Ti 6242 titanium alloy bar is strictly controlled to ensure consistent performance, adhering to international standards such as AMS 4975 and UNS R54620. The typical composition is as follows:

Note: Silicon is often added in small amounts to further improve the creep resistance of Ti 6242 (designated as Ti 6242S) for more demanding high-temperature applications.
Key Mechanical Properties (Duplex Annealed Condition)
Ti 6242 titanium alloy bar exhibits excellent mechanical properties, with stable performance across a wide temperature range. The following are the typical mechanical properties (annealing temperature: 700 - 760℃, followed by air cooling), complying with AMS 4975 standards:

Application Fields
Leveraging its unique combination of high-temperature performance, mechanical strength, and corrosion resistance, Ti 6242 titanium alloy bar is widely used in high-end industries that demand reliability and durability under harsh conditions:
Aerospace Industry: The primary application field for Ti 6242, used in the manufacturing of gas turbine engine components (blades, discs, spacers, seals), afterburner cans, hot airframe components, and aerospace structural parts. Its high-temperature creep resistance ensures long-term service safety in jet engines.
Automotive Industry: High-performance racing engine parts, exhaust components, valves, and fasteners, where its lightweight and high-temperature resistance help improve engine efficiency and performance.
Energy & Power Generation: Components for gas turbines, steam turbines, and LNG low-temperature equipment, as well as power generation condenser systems, benefiting from its high-temperature stability and corrosion resistance.
Marine & Offshore Industry: Underwater structural components, seawater desalination equipment, and offshore platform parts, thanks to its excellent resistance to seawater corrosion.
Other Fields: Precision mechanical components, chemical equipment (high-temperature reaction vessels), and medical devices (where biocompatibility and high strength are required).
